Credit Hire

BMW
Credit Hire is the temporary provision of a like-for-like replacement vehicle to those who have been unfortunate enough to be involved in a motor accident, the cause of which was not their fault. In such cases, the “innocent” party is entitled to recover the cost of a replacement vehicle for the duration of repairs to their own damaged vehicle or until settlement is received from the responsible party’s insurers if the vehicle is written off.

Under normal circumstances, the non-fault party would be expected to pay the hire charges and seek recovery of these from the other party’s insurers. Under a Solus Accident Assist credit hire agreement, however, we seek to recover these costs directly from the third party’s insurers on your behalf without the need for you to pay at the outset.

Friendly staffWe aim to ensure that you stay mobile following a non-fault accident.

How do we do this?
  • Once you have completed our on-line Incident Notification Form, one of our support team will speak to you to record full circumstances and details of the accident.
  • We will then make an assessment of whether there is an identifiable negligent party against whom a claim for losses can be pursued.
  • If we are satisfied that we can help, we will then provide you with a replacement hire car for the duration of your vehicle repairs or, if your car is deemed to be a total loss, for five days after you receive a cheque for the agreed settlement value of your damaged vehicle. If your vehicle is not mechanically or legally capable of being driven then we will deliver a replacement vehicle to you. If your vehicle is still in use following the accident then we will deliver a car to you when your own vehicle is to be repaired.
  • We will appoint a solicitor to act on your behalf.
  • We will maintain contact with the bodyshop repairing your car.
  • Your appointed solicitor will help you recover any other element of loss that you have suffered as a result of the accident e.g. policy excess, travelling expenses, and personal injury.
How does this involve my own insurance company?
We will notify your insurance company on your behalf, or ask you to notify them once we have agreed we can help you. They will need to know for information only. The claim is actually against the insurance company of the driver who caused the accident and not against your own insurance company.

What if I am injured?
If you suffered injury as a result of the accident you are legally entitled to claim compensation. You may have suffered whiplash, or an even more serious injury. We can help ensure you receive the compensation you are due, and what's more nothing will be deducted from any money you receive to cover legal costs. You will receive 100% of the compensation awarded to you.

What if my passengers are injured?
We can arrange for your passengers to claim any compensation due for injury as well. We will either take details over the phone when you call us, or you could ask them to call us direct on 01908 286565.
What replacement transport will I get?

Please install Flash® and turn on Javascript.

Wherever possible, you will be given replacement transport of a similar standard to your own, e.g. people carrier, motorbike, estate car, prestige car etc. You will need to show you have a 'need' for a similar standard vehicle, e.g. you may need a people carrier to transport children to and from school, or a prestige car because of your status at work etc.

Will I be asked to pay?
Providing you have given accurate and truthful information and co-operate and work with us, the costs of the provision of a replacement vehicle are passed to the insurance company of the driver who caused the accident. We will pursue the recovery of such costs vigorously. If, however, we are unable – for whatever reason – to recover the costs form the liable insurance company, you remain financially responsible for such costs in their entirety.
